Next, let's walk through the steps to make your own reed diffusers.

Here's what you'll need:

Step 1: Clean Your Supplies & Workspace

Start by cleaning your diffuser bottles and any measuring containers with warm, soapy water. Let them dry fully, then spray your work surface with rubbing alcohol to ensure a sanitary environment.

Step 2: Measure Your Base

Using a scale, weigh the desired amount of Optima Reed Diffuser Base into a clean pitcher or beaker.

Step 3: Check the IFRA Certificate

Choose your fragrance oil and refer to its IFRA certificate to determine the safe maximum usage level for your application. You can find the IFRA certificate for each of our fragrances under the “Technical Information” tab on that fragrance oil’s product page.

Step 4: Measure Your Fragrance Oil

Using a separate beaker or measuring cup, weigh the appropriate amount of fragrance oil on a scale based on the IFRA guidelines. Remember: while Optima can hold up to 40% fragrance oil, you should never exceed the IFRA maximum for your chosen fragrance.

Step 5: Mix the Base & Fragrance

Pour the fragrance oil into your Optima Base and stir thoroughly until the mixture is well combined.

Step 6: Fill Your Diffuser Bottles

Carefully pour the mixture into your diffuser bottles. Insert reeds and allow them to soak for several hours to begin fragrance diffusion.

Notes & Tips

  • Flip reeds every few days to refresh the scent.
  • Store filled diffusers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • The color of the fragrance oil can vary and may affect the finished result.
