Before You Pour

  • Lay down newspaper or parchment paper to catch any drips or spills. This makes cleanup quick and simple.
  • Avoid areas with fans, drafts, or cold air. Aim for a room temperature of 70–74°F to help your candle cool evenly and set up smoothly.
  • Since you’ll be melting wax in the microwave, make sure your work area is set up nearby so you can move safely and efficiently between steps.
  • Lay out all your supplies before you start (wax, wicks, jars, fragrances, spoon, etc.)
  • Keep pets and young children away from the workspace. Not only is it safer, but it also minimizes the chances of spills or accidents.

Ready, Set... WAIT!

  • Heat the wax in 30-second intervals, stirring between each round. This helps it melt evenly and prevents scorching. Never leave the wax unattended while it’s in the microwave.
  • Remember, the container will get hot, so use caution when removing it from the microwave. It typically takes about 3–4 minutes to melt one bag of wax completely, but the exact time will depend on your microwave.

Troubleshooting Basics

  • If the top of your candle looks uneven after it cools, don’t worry! You can gently smooth it out by melting the top layer with a heat gun or hair dryer on a low setting.
  • Make sure you always let the candle burn until the wax pool reaches all the way to the edges of the jar to prevent tunneling. If you extinguish the candle too early, it can leave unmelted wax around the sides and cause it to burn unevenly.
  • If the flame flickers or burns too high, the wick is probably too long. Blow it out, let the wax cool, trim the wick to about ⅛–¼ inch, and relight.
  • If you notice a light white film or crystal-like patches on the surface of the candle, your candle is frosting! It’s part of the charm of using a natural soy wax and doesn’t affect how your candle burns or smells.

Candle Safety Guidelines

  • Always keep the wick trimmed to ⅛–¼ inch before lighting. A properly trimmed wick helps the candle burn evenly and prevents the flame from getting too large.
  • Make sure the flame is a safe distance from matches, wick trimmings, or anything else that could catch fire.
  • Only burn your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface for up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Keep candles away from drafts and never move them while lit or when the wax is hot.
  • Discontinue use when about ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom of the jar.
  • Never leave unattended. Keep candles within sight, and away from children and pets at all times.
